My reels from over the years.
I spend a lot of time working in After Effects. Ten years ago, while working for Dixie RV (now Great American RV), I was part of a creative team in a small room, experimenting with Photoshop's 3D features. I struggled with After Effects' built-in extrusion tools, which were slow and demanding on my machine. Then I discovered the Element 3D plug-in, which integrated seamlessly with After Effects. I quickly immersed myself in tutorials, utilizing the tool to create practical and innovative animations and models.
Since then, I've crafted a wide range of animations and models using Element 3D. While it's becoming outdated, I'm now learning new 3D modeling programs like Blender, Unreal Engine, and Adobe Dimension. Despite its limitations, it'll be hard to replace how well Element 3D and After Effects played together.
I first met Dale Sanders in 2014 after a few friends paddled from the Gulf of St Lawrence in Nova Scotia to the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana. Dale was planning his own adventure to paddle the full length of the Mississippi River, aiming to set an age record. My partners Austin Graham and Bradley Tallent of Adventureitus Productions captured the trek and produced the film Dale Sanders Source to Sea in 2016.
That record-setting adventure wasn't enough for Dale. Confident he could achieve the same feat on foot, he prepared and trained to hike the Appalachian Trail. In 2017, at the age of 82, Dale became the oldest man to accomplish the feat. I documented parts of his journey, resulting in the film Dale on the Trail. Dale's adventures have been an inspiration to many, including myself.
Since then, both records have been beaten. However, Dale re-took the Mississippi River thru-paddle record at age 86 (Dale Sanders: The Man, The Myth, The Mississippi). Now, he plans to reclaim the Appalachian Trail record in 2025-2026 at age 90. Never bet against this man.
One of my greatest passions is the sport of Disc Golf. Few things I'd rather be doing than honing my skills by throwing round plastic discs into the air and through the woods. Here in Chattanooga, TN where I'm based, we have a great community of disc golfers who are dedicated to the sport and its local growth. I wanted to do my part so I contribute to this community through my work behind the camera.
From my documentary on the history of our most popular course, Welcome to The Sinks, to capturing local tournaments that offer intriguing local battles between the best Chattanooga's top players. I make sure these edits are worth watching. I created custom graphics for this tournaments coverage that are visually pleasing and comprehensive. Recently, I've been using my drone to post fly-throughs of local courses, giving newcomers and visitors a glimpse of what our courses have to offer.
I grew up playing video games in the 90s. I also sadly tinkered with Gameboys and original Nintendo Entertainment Systems long before I had the skills to reassemble them. But that didn't stop my young, naive ambition to somehow combine these two gaming systems to make a more powerful machine... unsuccessfully.
Today, my passion for gaming hardware has evolved into a quest to track down and restore both classic and modern entertainment systems. I film myself dismantling, cleaning, and repairing controllers and consoles, producing in-depth and relaxing refurbishment videos. My goal is to create content with an NPR-like vibe, offering a soothing yet informative experience.
One of my most popular videos is a detailed guide on disassembling the Nintendo Wii U console, which has helped many viewers. While I wish I had more time to produce additional content, I remain dedicated to sharing my love for gaming hardware restoration with anyone who shares the passion I have for the hobby.
Chattanooga is a lively and beautiful city. There always seems to be something going on. There was a time when all I wanted to do was create timelapses and hyperlapses of this vibrant place. I got really deep into this unique art form. While I created a fairly large portfolio of videos, these required me to sit in one place for large amounts of time, and now as a father I am unable to find as many random moments to go out and capture for an hour+ for a 5 second video. Yet still, when I see big puffy clouds across the sky on a pretty day, I just want to find that sweet spot at a park and let the camera do its thing.
Hyperlapses, on the other hand, are a different beast altogether. They are challenging in many ways, from maintaining the perfect angle and timing each shutter click precisely to the extensive post-production work needed for stabilizing and reframing. Though time-staking, I find them visually stunning and well worth the effort.
Chattanooga has an incredible amount of outdoor resources. There has been many films that highlight those very features. However, these films often overlook the women leading the organizations that make Chattanooga a premier outdoor destination. It's time to shine a light of appreciation and acknowledgment on these women. Their stories deserve to be told not only for posterity but also to inspire and encourage young women interested in preserving our great outdoors.
My role goes beyond creating on-stage graphics for live events. I also film these events, produce captivating sizzle reels, and utilize those videos to promote the next year's event. There's nothing quite like navigating through heavy crowds with a massive camera rig, capturing genuine smiles, perfectly timed dance moves, and moments of complete immersion of a good time.
Occasionally, I'll need to animated logos, texts, maps. Here's some of those.
First and foremost, this is outdated. Life takes you in many directions, and the one I traveled with... well, we no longer travel together. However, in the vein as Consoloscopy, it's important to note that I'm not professionally trained in old video games nor am I trained in old van conversions. My expertise lies with cameras, so that's what I offer.
Wild Days of the Calloways is a video series documenting the transformation of my 1992 GMC G2500 Vandura Starcraft edition. Maybe your grandpa had one of these classic vans? Throughout the project, I didn't always know what I was doing, and the YouTube comments didn't shy away from pointing that out. Nevertheless, it was a worthwhile project. Much of the transformation was captured on camera, and although the footage remains on a hard drive, it has inspired many.
We hit the road in the van before I could edit and upload all the transformation videos. As it turns out, editing on the road without a constant power source is quite challenging. After a brief vanlife stint in the northeast, we went our separate ways. I still have the van and occasionally use it for weekend camping trips.
My 2013 film The Climb to Katahdin. I worked incredibly hard on this film. It was all a challenge, from the preparation to hike and film the trek, to dealing with camera issues during filming, to post productions and whittling down over 100 hours of footage.
I'm very proud of the result. It was the adventure of a lifetime and changed the outcome of my life. I don't think I would have ever moved to Chattanooga, TN if it weren't for falling in love with mountains during the hike.
The first screening of the film broke records at the
I enjoy live music and always appreciate the opportunity to film performances.
